What Is Alcaphaz?
Alcaphaz is a full paranormal investigation tabletop RPG set on a mysterious island — a deliberate fusion of Okinawa, New Zealand, New Caledonia, and Hawaii. The central concept is ESPertom: a pharmaceutical compound created by Zoon Pharmaceuticals that triggers latent psychic abilities, transforming test subjects into ESPers. Players are ESPers navigating a world controlled by Zoon Pharmaceuticals (35% influence), Noos Corporation (40%, military-partnered rival), OASIS Technologies (surveillance), The Military (55%, enforcing the embargo), The Escapees/Awakened (15%), and Local Families. The resolution system is the ESP Brain System: characters have three attributes (Physical, Mental, Social), each with dual bands. Every roll uses 2D20 — a Left Brain die and a Right Brain die — one visible to the player, one hidden (visible only to the GM). Results are graded: Critical Success (natural 1), Success, Partial Success, Fail + Boon, Failure, Critical Failure (natural 20). When both dice show the same number, a Sync Point is earned. Characters choose Handedness: Right-Handed, Left-Handed, or Ambidextrous. 24 Skills cover Physical, Mental, Social, and Hybrid types. The ESP Powers compendium contains 30+ powers across 6 disciplines: Telepathy, Psychometry, Clairvoyance, Telekinesis, Precognition, and Retrocognition. The full site includes: Rules (with interactive dice roller), World (island map, factions), Powers (filterable compendium), Downloads, Community, Solo Adventure, Character Builder, Bestiary, and Sitemap.
Best For
TTRPG players who love paranormal horror, body horror, tropical noir, and original dice mechanics with deep lore
Competitive Moat
Dual-hemisphere 2D20 ESP Brain System is mechanically unique — no other TTRPG uses simultaneous hidden-die resolution tied to brain lateralisation

Competitors & Alternatives
Who Should Use This?
TTRPG players who love: paranormal investigation games (Delta Green, Call of Cthulhu); original mechanical design that goes beyond d20; body horror and tropical noir aesthetics; games where powers have genuine costs; immersive world-building with factional complexity.
Pricing Analysis
Completely free. Every section of the site — rules, world, powers compendium, character builder, solo adventure, bestiary — is accessible without payment or registration.
Final Verdict
Alcaphaz is a landmark independent TTRPG. The ESP Brain System's dual-hemisphere 2D20 mechanic — with its hidden die, handedness modifiers, Sync Points, and brain degradation through use — is one of the most conceptually original resolution systems in the independent TTRPG scene. The production quality is exceptional — interactive rules pages, live dice simulation, faction influence meters, filterable powers compendium, character builder. Score: 9.0/10.
